As you prepare for your study abroad experience in Israel, the issue of security is undoubtedly on your and your family’s minds. First and foremost, know that the welfare of our students is our highest priority. It is an unfortunate fact that we have had to adjust ourselves to difficult times here in Israel, but we have learned to deal with them calmly and professionally.
In general, unlike its portrayal in the media, Israel is a very safe country. At the same time, we understand the concern and the need for precautions which we take very seriously. For this reason high security measures are taken in Israel, in general (including security guards in public places, shopping malls, entries to train stations, etc.).
The Wingate Institute is located just outside of the southern Netanya, on the Western coast of Israel, so it is not within a populated urban area. The campus is surrounded by a fence. There is only one entrance to the campus which can be reached from southbound Highway 2 (Haifa to Tel Aviv). An armed security guard is posted at the campus entrance at all times.
In addition, armed security guards are stationed at the entry to the College Building. The College Building is a structure which meets all the required Israeli safety standards including shelters. In addition to the entrance security guard, an armed security person patrols the campus by vehicle several times a day. All security personnel are connected via a security network supervised by a security officer.
All aspects of our social programs, including trips around Israel, are coordinated with the security authorities, thus allowing students to see the country in the safest possible way.
